There are many kinds of teas in the world. While black tea is the most common variety, accounting for over 70% of world tea consumption, it is always said that green tea is the healthiest choice. However, recent research indicates that both black tea and green tea have their own health properties.

Green tea, which is only lightly processed, retains most of the powerful epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) antioxidant and that makes it a very effective anti-aging drink. The fermentation process used to make black tea, on the other hand, converts EGCG into other compounds. Recent studies show that these compounds, including theaflavins and thearubigens, which are found mostly in black tea also provide health benefits originally attributed solely to green tea.
